Uncle G’s FUN DVD Concert Reviews
Spotlight: ZZ Top: Live From Texas (2008 Eagle Vision)
By Gary Brown
American Corespondent for Classic Rock Radio (UK)
Recorded: November 1, 2007, at the Nokia Theatre in Grand Prairie, Texas, U.S.A.
By the time ZZ Top’s first official live DVD came out, and this was in the year 2008, the band was already legendary. Formed in the late 1960’s. Warmed up for/appeared on stage with many of the big names over the decades including the original Alice Cooper (Billion Dollar Babies Tour). The “Little Ol’ Band From Texas” popularity soared back when MTV was a cool thing to immerse yourself in. A long list of hit singles. A catalog of songs ranging in different styles, yet giving each one a big Texas imprint. Superior albums/CDs, that should be in every classic rock CD collection. And yes, ZZ Top are inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame (as they should be).
Establishing all that, this DVD is the coolest thing to experience. Visually it’s stunning. Portrays the band as one would imagine. It’s all there; the excellent light show and stage presentation. A superior setlist. Outstanding performances by each of the three band members:
Billy Gibbons – Guitar and Vocals
Dusty Hill – Bass, Keyboards, and Vocals
Frank Beard – Drums
Seriously, I can’t ask for much more. It’s what a concert DVD should be; a true representation of what the people behind the name are all about. A ZZ Top show is like no other. It’s one BIG party!! Cool to witness in the comfort of one own home. Affordable, so it doesn’t take a large chunk out of your wallet. Above average bonus features as well including the band doing a live cover of Jimi Hendrix’s Foxy Lady.
“Uncle G” Rating: Using the one to five-star rating system, this one’s 5 stars…fer sure (as they sometimes say here in the Lone Star State).
