Spotlight: The Police Synchronicity Concert (2005)

American Corespondent for Classic Rock Radio (UK)

I remember so wanting to go see The Police on this tour. I never did. It’s one of the few rock bands that I regret not attending one of their concerts. They did have a reunion some years back. On par with Simon & Garfunkel for wasted years passed by not making music together. It’s what they do best. The only one to have equal success was Sting. He had the advantage of being the voice the public identified with. The more casual fans spilled more his way after the separation. So much so record companies were putting out greatest hits releases such as; Sting and The Police. It aggravated me every time I saw that. When the trio played together they were always known as, The Police. I believe that even Sting would agree.

So this is an official product of The Police. I don’t want to be repetitive. Information about the DVD you can get on the official website of the band. I’ll tell you I had a blast watching/listening to this DVD today. It’s been a while since I got into The Police. I was probably one of America’s first New Wave fans. I lived in the northern part of the United States, back then. New York City radio was favorable to, New Wave music. The bars I drank in all had the Police – Roxanne 45 single in the jukebox. That’s how I got turned on them. An exciting period in music. A lot of cool creativity back then.

Regarding the DVD itself, be it a casual to hardcore fan, I would recommend having this in your classic rock DVD collection. The set list presented opportunities so each song could be heard/witnessed playing it note for note or getting an extended version. I loved the freedom the band gave themselves when presenting what was being heard on the radio, day in and day out now. Could sell out the bigger places towards the end. I’m glad we got this time together. The DVD is filmed beautifully, and sounds outstanding, as it should for back in the day The Police had Eddie Offord as their Audio Recording Engineer.

Many highlights. I like their more high-energy tunes; Synchronicity I. By the second song, Walking In Your Footsteps, you’re convinced of what established musicians, these three men are. Was very cool to experience what it was like to see the band live back in their heyday. Between the main presentation and bonus features, one feels satisfied with what they just seen/heard for themselves. Worth every penny I paid for it; used…excellent condition and under $10.00.
