What we have here is a celebration. Without actually returning to the band he helped create, and is now inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame, Jon Anderson, with help from The Band Geeks, performs classic Yes music as it is meant to be heard. Done brilliantly! The combined talent masterfully performs a set list of songs that would make any YesFan, well…just cream their pants. If into Yes, and I mean seriously into the Yes albums from the 1970s, this is a dream come true. Let me elaborate.
I’ve been a follower of the band Yes, since around 1973. That makes me around 12 years old. I got to know the albums, Yes – Fragile, up to and including Yes – Tales From Topographic Oceans during that time.
I first saw Yes in concert, while they were they were touring their Relayer (1974) album. Myself and some friends walked into Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City, New Jersey, in the summer of 1975, to see Jon Anderson on stage with a bunch of stagehands, explaining various things to the audience. This was hours before Yes took to the stage. The concert’s first date was rained out. This time, and before the outdoor stadium, which held around 25,000 people, was completely dried out, it was going to happen. The band Ace, riding a wave of success with their hit ‘How Long’, opened the show. We drove halfway across New Jersey to see Yes, and they did not disappoint. Next year we saw them again, at the same place. Their encore, I’m Down, made it to a boxset Yes would put out, years later.
Regarding Jon Anderson, the same as I remain a loyal fan of the band Yes, I was interested in whatever Mr. Anderson did. I was lucky to have seen Jon with Yes, on several tours with Yes, and once in Dallas, I saw Jon put on a one-man show that I still have fond memories of. We met after his performance. A mutual friend’s name, Billy James, came up in conversation as we waited for my then-wife to snap a picture of us together. By now it was around midnight, and Jon had a car waiting for him so he could leave. I treasure that photo and that moment in time. I had a bunch of friends who either knew Jon or met him at one time or another. Add me to the list. Cool that it happened.

The choice of songs performed and presented here from the Yes catalog that Jon participated in (lead singer_lyricist), is simply amazing. Check this out…
01.) Yours Is No Disgrace (1971 The Yes Album)
02.) Perpetual Change (1971 The Yes Album)
03.) Close To The Edge (1973 Close To the Edge)
04.) Heart Of The Sunrise (1972 Fragile)
05.) Starship Trooper (1971 The Yes Album)
06.) Awaken (1977 Going For The One)
07.) And You And I (1973 Close to The Edge)
08.) Your Move – I’ve Seen All Good People (1971 The Yes Album)
09.) The Gates Of Delirium (1974 Relayer)
10.) Roundabout (1972 Fragile)
Reminds me of seeing Yes when they performed their Masterworks Tour. The set list was pretty close.
The Band Geeks:
Richie Castellano (bass) – Andy Graziano (guitar) – Christopher Clark (keys) – Robert Kipp (keys) – Andy Ascolese (drums).
The music itself is flawless to how it sounds on its studio recording, or how Yes performed the song in concert. Jon’s vocals, and remember, this is a man now in his 70s, match what he sounded like decades ago. Truly remarkable!
Glass Onyon PR is promoting this new live release. Helping out was long-time client Jon Anderson who said about this project:
“It’s true, I never left YES in my heart and soul… ever!! Too many amazingly powerful memories… And of course, the music never left me…So here I am, still wanting to sing the songs again, and bring MY true feelings to the lyrics… Melody and lyrics has always been my passion…I sing them now with an older and I hope wiser state of mind…I’ve been wanting to have that feeling again…of performing the songs I lived for, and the music I helped to create and design, with the sound of the band of old around me once more…The first time I heard the BAND GEEKS I truly freaked out – they sound just like the classic YES of the seventies, the YES that I know and love…”
“Uncle G” RATES…Jon Anderson & The Band Geeks: Live – Perpetual Change.
Using the one to five-star rating system whereas one star would mean the album sucked cat turds and to NOT even think of listening to or buying it. On the flip side, five stars equate to it’s safe to buy and give repeat listens to. I prefer the physical product/actual CD to have in my music collection. This one comes included with a DVD. Back to the music, streaming is cool also. I use Amazon Music, myself. It’s perfect for when I’m at the gym.
Your favorite “Uncle G” rates Jon Anderson & The Band Geeks: Live – Perpetual Change…5 stars! Simply put, if you enjoy Yes music, this is for you. The album is 100 percent AWEsome! YesSongs, as they were meant to be performed. These are the tunes that in part, made me a Yes…wait…Jon Anderson fan, all this time. Extremely well done! All involved were very ‘good people’ and did a fantastic job.
Rest In Peace: William ‘Billy’ James – Owner/Proprietor of Glass Onyon PR.
