While I was home today, I decided, having nothing else better to do, that I would reevaluate our home television bill.
We have a main television package. Back then, what we have now would have been labeled basic cable. No premium channels. Nowadays, it’s in high definition and wireless. This is, after all, the twenty-first century. The flip side would be to just have Antenna TV/Free TV. IN HD as well (most channels). Requires having an antenna or some hook-up to tune it in. Fairly cheaply done, from what I understand. In case of a weather emergency, having both would be ideal. Along those lines, if one peters out, you still have a spare. Back when Galveston/Houston got hit by Hurricane Ike (2008), some people were without any working utilities for a long time. Our place, thank the good Lord, was back to normal in about a week. A horrible experience, and glad to have survived it. No television for days. Imagine that. Proves at least to me that one doesn’t realize how much they missed something until it’s gone.
To complement what we already had, for the past three months, we have been subscribing to two streaming channels: Netflix and Hulu Plus. Both stations go for under ten bucks a month, with Hulu Plus being the cheaper of the two.
Only took a minute to realize I still like the main carrier I’m using. Which is AT&T. Over the decades, I used pretty much all the main providers. What we have now is WAY better than Dish or Direct TV, in my opinion. As long as costs don’t get carried away, this is still worth having, even in today’s market.
I asked myself. I said; Self, when was the last time you tuned into Netflix?
I watch something on Hulu Plus every day. The main reason is that it carries Full Moon Features titles that I dig, such as their new web show, Trophy Heads, or their latest movie, Evil Bong 420. Other cool stuff as well. I’m into Season Two of the TV show, Inside Amy Schumer. Very funny (blue material). Plus, I’m into re-watching the original Odd Couple with Tony Randall and Jack Klugman. Still working on Season One.
The answer to my Netflix question was, “I can’t remember.” The deciding factor in my canceling their service. Did it a couple of hours ago. AT&T and Hulu Plus for us should do the job…for now, or until I decide to reevaluate my at-home television entertainment services again.
The Who – The Vegas Job (First Released in 1999)
I found this Who concert on Hulu Plus. I saw the DVD offered a few times. Had an interesting backstory. A concert that was to be seen all over the world via the internet didn’t happen. Not as easy as it is now. The company ended up having shady dealings and went bust. Part of the whole Dot Com crash around the turn of the century.
The Who, at the time, was coming off a semi-long vacation. It was only a couple of years back that they toured Quadrophenia. A big production. Now in ’99, just five musicians on stage. Three original members: Roger Daltrey (main vocals), John Entwistle (bass), Pete Townshend (guitar_vocals), and two additional players, Zak Starkey (drums), and John Bundrick (keyboards).
For the most part, the setlist was comprised of all their greatest hits. A very tight performance, and one worth seeing for yourself. The Who ended up marketing the concert. It’s all professionally recorded. I caught the band the very next year. Had a wonderful time.
The date of the concert was October 29, 1999. In Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino.
