Musician Greg Lake issued a statement yesterday (12 March 2016) on the death of a fellow colleague that he worked with for decades; Keith Emerson. Addressing his actual passing, Greg said;

As sad and tragic as Keith’s death is, I would not want this to be the lasting memory people take away with them. What I will always remember about Keith Emerson was his remarkable talent as a musician and composer and his gift and passion to entertain. Music was his life and despite some of the difficulties he encountered I am sure that the music he created will live on forever.

This I personally agree with, one hundred percent. So much so that I can say with certainty, that for the rest of my life, the music Keith Emerson was involved in, will still and always be a part of it.

Spending a good portion of yesterday (12 March) thinking about this, I decided to do as I always did regarding personal information and the people that play the music I like. Regarding Keith’s suicide, regardless of my own personal feelings on the subject, to look past the personal choice Mr. Emerson made regarding his demise. Frankly, sad as it is, it’s none of my business.

Those who regularly read my columns (thank U), know I don’t as a rule, give a rats ass about these people’s personal life. How many times married? How many children? What their political or religious views are? It’s not why I’m spending my time/money on them. It’s the music they are involved in. The compositions they help create. This is why I type their name and center my writing around them. Keith’s death changes nothing. I have always said Emerson, Lake, & Palmer was my second favorite band. Right behind, Yes. The matter in which Keith died, will not change that.
