Regarding: Rock Legends FlierGlen Buxton

I volunteered to work two jobs at this gig. That or I was drafted. The first one was handing out fliers to people when they walked in the door. The second job was selling merchandise. A favorite moment: at one point, I’m shouting like a street vendor — get your Neal Smith signed photos here. I caught Neal in the corner of my eye. The drummer was sitting at a table signing autographs. He glanced up and looked at me, and smiled. The concert rocked! Afterwards was FUN. It was a GREAT night! Topped off by me standing directly in front of Glen Buxton as he played the opening notes of School’s Out. Encore! One of the perks of my being the merchandise guy. I didn’t realize this would be the last time that Glen ever did that. I’m sure, neither did GB. Way too sad…Glen passed away one week after the Area 51 gig. That was his last time GB played Alice Cooper music in public. R.I.P. Glen Buxton (1947-1997).

On the subject of Glen’s autograph. Even being a part-time autograph collector, I never asked Glen for an autograph. My wife Sandra did, which explains the ‘heart’ Glen made near his name. She secured all the signatures on the flyer. I think GB was smitten with her. It’s cool. The two of them got along well. Sandra felt she had made a new friend. I did as well. I thought GB had a good visit, and I was looking forward to seeing him again someday.

One week later. The telephone rang. It was Michael Bruce’s manager. He informed me of Glen’s death. I was totally shocked! Instantly sad! How could that be, I asked myself. I just saw the man a week ago. He looked well. Michael Bruce’s manager was sick as a dog the night of the Area 51 gig. That I remember. Houston was having day after day of shitty weather. It was raining all the time. It was October, so the temperatures outside were cooler. Glen stayed with MB’s manager throughout his visit. Both my wife and I were crushed after being told of Glen’s passing.

Again, I never asked Glen Buxton for an autograph or a photo with him, and I could have on more than one occasion, but didn’t. I could kick myself in the ass now, for not playing fan-boy with him, for at least a minute or two. I just wanted to be like a normal guy around GB. The payoff was worth it. I did both a beer and a cigarette run for the guy. We both checked out albums together at a record show. Glen was in search of the jazz ones. Both of us got along fine. I remember saying bye to him after the Area 51 gig. We exchanged pleasantries. Glen wore a t-shirt that I gave him earlier on stage. That was cool. He waved to us as the car Neal Smith was driving took off. A lasting memory. My wife and I were fortunate to be involved. Michael Bruce and his manager both thanked us as we were getting ready to take it home. Truly, a night to remember.

Update: My 2nd wife, Alexandra, and I were divorced on the 13th of February in 2017. The marriage lasted one day short of 22 years. We had some good times.

Update: Totally shocking! Not bullshit! This is 100 percent true. The Alice Cooper Group has recorded a new studio album entitled: Alice Cooper – The Revenge of Alice Cooper. Produced by Bob Ezrin. Released on July 25, 2025. More info found on the guy’s websites or social media accounts. Here’s Alice’s website: www.alicecooper.com

FYI: There is an excellent search engine on the Gary “Uncle G” Brown Archives website. Use it! Feel free (no paywalls) to poke around. There are over 300 articles, so far, that are on here. Speaking of, if interested, I did another story on the Area 51 gig that I mentioned above.
